We import the incredible down for the Salzburg duvet directly from Germany. Starting with select batches of mature white goose down, it is meticulously hand sorted. By hand sorting we ensure that only the puffiest of plumules make it into the duvet. In addition, by choosing from batches of mature down we ensure that your down will not break down over time which is common from immature down. Hand sorting also ensures that you receive the largest down clusters in your duvet, with the highest densities and cling factor possible. The down in the Salzburg duvet behaves very much like a white Eiderdown. It is incredibly soft and lightweight and will last for generations. The down in the Salzburg duvet tests out at 800 cubic inches in our loft test, however, due to its very high insulating capacities it inulates at an incredible 850 points.
Zurguard Down Processing System for Cleanliness
Cleaned with our Zurguard cleaning process this down is guaranteed to be Hypoallergenic and will not aggravate any allergies you may think you have to down. In the Zurguard Down Processing System the down is sanitized which eliminates bacteria. A special Ozone treatment is the final part of the cleaning process so that the Eiderdown has a lifetime of freshness. This process ensures that your Eiderdown is Hypoallergenic and will eliminate any odors that would normally come from the Eider Duck.
The Zurguard cleaning process treats down in a more careful and gentle manner. While other cleaning processes may use heat that can overdry and even burn the down causing it to be brittle the Zurguard Down Processing System ensures that your Eiderdown fibers are not damaged and never overdried. This ensures that the natural qualities of the down that keep you warm are not destroyed but in fact preserved.
The Zurguard system does not artificially enhance the loft of your down. Some cleaning processes that are used by big box stores and lesser down duvet manufacturers will actually artificially boost the loft of your down. So while you think you may be buying a 700 loft duvet, over time that down will actually lose its loft. In a year or two that down will actually become cold and you will want a new duvet. With our Eiderdown Duvets you will never have that problem. Our Eiderdown Duvet loft is 750 but because of the insulating qualities of the Eiderdown it actually tests out at a remarkable 850-900 loft.
And as is standard with all of our duvets the Zurguard Down Processing System exceeds all government standards for purity and cleanliness. Ensuring you have a wonderful down cloud inside your duvet. This is true luxury.
The Casing or "Ticking" That Keeps The Down In Place
We import from Germany a 100% Egyptian Cotton. At 390 threads per inch the thread count is fantastic. When this fabric is woven at the mill a process called "callendering" squeezes the threads together so that down will not escape which is especially noticeable when you go to change your duvet cover.
The fabric is handsewn in Canada in a sealed baffle box design. I must tell you that our sealed baffle box is truly the best in the industry. Not only does our down not move from one baffle to the other, but the boxes have panels sewn on all sides so that the down utilzes it's full loft. Imagine a box that you pour down into as opposed to a pillow. In a box you have an even layer of down throughout. In a pillow configuration you would have more down in the middle and less on all sides. Lesser companies have baffles on two sides and then "sew through" the tops and the bottoms. A sewn through baffle box means that the top layer of ticking and the bottom layer of ticking are sewn together. This creates cold zones and lesser duvets are sewn like this. It is cheaper to do and less expensive for the manufacturer. However, you end up with a cold zone where the stiching is thus wasting much of your money having spent it on high quality down.
Our down duvet construction ensures that the extra money you spend on higher quality down is well spent. Our duvets maximizes the full potential of higher lofted down so you can sleep under a warm layer of high quality down.
The casing is piped along the edges with a beautuful white satin cording
